Abstract
838,291. Fluid-actuated switches. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 21, 1956 [Nov. 29, 1955], No. 34119/55. Class 38 (5). At the same time as fluid is admitted to the working face 19c of a piston 19, fluid also passes through duct 26 in the cylinder to the rear, smaller face 19d to retard the movement of the piston until a wider part 19a thereof covers the duct 26 and simultaneously a narrower part 19b opens an exhaust port 27. At this moment movable bridging contacts 24 engage fixed contacts 13 with a snap action. At the end of the movement the piston engages a sealing ring 29. In the opening movement, the ducts 26 and port 27 are uncovered at the moment of contact separation, whereby pressure - fluid assists the spring 25 in imparting a rapid movement. A further bridging contact (not shown) may be mounted on the other side of the insulating carrier 23.
