Abstract
837,770. Self-contained supply systems. JOY MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 19, 1957 [March 12, 1966], No. 5566/57. Class 38 (4). In a self-contained governed engine driven generating system supplying a battery 28 in parallel with a load 150, 152, the generator output is reduced at a determined load current to reduce the engine load and prevent smoky exhaust fumes due to excessive governor operation. Generator shunt field winding 36 is connected to an armature 15 through resistors 80, 84, 102, the latter being shunted by contacts 92, 98, operated by a load current relay 96 connected to series field winding 76 and current operated cut-out 112, 120, 124. The latter also carries a potential coil 132 with an economy resistor 128 which is inserted by contacts 144 operated by arm 120. A starting push 52 supplies field winding 36 also operates relay 62, 66 which supplies armature 15 through a resistor 80. In operation, the generator voltage is adjusted to supply the load current up to a determined value, at which relay 96 operates reducing the shunt field flux and hence the output voltage causing the battery to supply part of the load.
