Abstract

796,087. Vehicle supply systems. LEECE-NEVILLE CO. Sept. 17, 1956, No. 28419/56. Class 38 (4). A vehicle generating system comprises an alternator 11, supplying a D.C. load including a battery 14, through a full-wave rectifier 12 and contacts 15, 16 of a voltageoperated relay 17. The relay rail 41 is energized from generator 11 by a bridge connected rectifier comprising arms 27-29 of rectifier 12 and arms 44-46 of an auxiliary rectifier 20, the latter isolating the coil 41 from the battery, thus preventing the latter from holding the relay closed when the engine is stopped. Vibratory relays 18, 19 have voltage and current operated coils 56, 68, controlling the generated voltage through a field winding 23. An auxiliary relay 21 energized from rectifier 12 and controlled by a switch 86 connects a, motor 89 to the battery 14 when the engine is stopped. The motor 89 drives a pump or compressor 90, which is normally belt-driven from the engine through an over-running clutch 92. Other embodiments are described not using an auxiliary rectifier 20, or only employing one or two arms. Specification 724,720 is referred to.
