837,637. Reversing gearing; change-speed gearing. CLARK EQUIPMENT CO. Aug. 7, 1957 [Aug. 31, 1956], No. 24859/57. Class 80 (2). In a combined reversing and change-speed gear, the input shaft 10 continuously drives a reverse drive-shaft 60 and rotatable gears 22, 58 on the input and reverse drive-shafts are selectively clutchable to the shafts to drive a gear 56 secured to a countershaft 44 which drives an output shaft 116 through a multi-speed gear. The input shaft 10 is supported in a bearing 12 in the front wall of a casing 14 and is supported within bearings in a hollow shaft 16 carried in bearings 18 in the rear wall of the casing 14. The shaft 10 has rigid therewith a gear 20 meshing with a gear 70 rigid with a similarly mounted reverse drive-shaft 60. The hollow shafts 16 and 66, which can be respectively clutched to the shafts 10, 60 by fluidactuated friction clutches 24, 72, carry gears 22, 58 both meshing with a gear 56 rigid with a countershaft 44. The countershaft had rigid therewith a gear 54 and, clutchable thereto by a clutch 76, a gear 74. The gears 54 and 74 are meshed with gears 78, clutchable to a second countershaft 82 by clutch 92, and 80 rigid with the shaft 82. The gear 80 meshes with gears 96, 122 rigid with hollow shafts 98, 124 clutchable by clutches 108, 134 to third and fourth countershafts 100, 126, respectively. The countershafts 100, 126 have gears 112, 138 rigid therewith and meshing with gears 114, 140 rigid with the output shaft 116. By selection of the clutches four speeds in forward or reverse are obtained.
