Abstract

836,329. Boring-heads. BRINEY MANUFACTURING CO. June 10, 1958 [Oct. 14, 1957], No. 18503/58. Class 83 (3). In a boring-head, having an adapter 10 attachable by bolts to a machine-tool spindle at 12, the tool 48 is roughly-adjustable radially by oscillating it.in a tapered recess 44 of a holder 20 secured to the adapter, and is finely-adjusted by rotating the holder, an extension 28 of which is mounted on balls 30, Fig. 3, in an eccentric recess 14 of the adapter. The holder is forced against a face 40 of the adapter by a bolt 32, screwing in the holder, a spring 34, and a ballbearing 38. The tool is positioned and held in the recess 44 by set-screws 52, 54, a set-screw 56 acting as a pivot about which the tool is oscillated. Holes 62 provide for rotating the holder 20 by a wrench, a scale thereon indicating the adjustment. The bolt-assembly 32 may be covered by a cap. The recess 44 is parallel to the longitudinal axis at 44', Fig. 3.
