Abstract
835,709. Stud and socket fastening; circlips. VERNON INSTRUMENT CO. Ltd.. and VERNON, G. W. Oct. 19, 1956, No. 31945/56. Classes 44 and 89(2) Means for retaining a rod 11 in a loose end fitting 14 comprises a shoulder 17 on the rod near its end, the rod tapering from the shoulder to its end, and a spring circlip 19 below the shoulder having a bore which, in the free position of the circlip, is of slightly smaller diameter than the shoulder, the resiilience of the circlip being adequate to enable the shoulder to be forced through it, and the circlip being retained in the end fitting without preventing it from expanding when the shoulder is forced through it. As shown, the upper end of the rod co-operates with a conical recess 13 in the fitting, 'and the circlip is located in a groove 21 formed in a counter bore 18. The circlip may be retained by a screwed cap or plug. The rod can be removed from the fitting by a tilting movement through the circlip, or the latter may be sprung open by a tool engaging holes therein.
