[Also in Group XV] A device for applying a seamless coating of felt to cores of tennis balls, comprises a rotary drum 1 having openings 12 in its end faces, and a semi - cylindrical member 13 resiliently mounted inside the drum. Round cores 17, which have previously received an undercoating of fibres, are fed into the drum, together with feltable fibres which are blown into the drum through the openings 12. As the drum 1 rotates in the direction indicated by the arrow B, the cores 17 are continuously forced through the gap between the curved surfaces of the drum and member 13, in the presence of a fulling liquid, with the result that fibres adhering to the cores during their passage down the inclined surface 16 of the member 13 will be subjected to pressure and fulled. When the coating is sufficiently thick, the fulling liquid is replaced by fresh water for washing the balls, and eventually the latter are dried by blowing hot air into the drum 1.
