Abstract

832,690. Electromagnetic relays. PANDAPAS, G. J. July 16, 1956 [March 23, 1956], No. 21883/56. Class 38 (5). A relay coil 1 having a magnetic casing 4 and fixed core 2 controls a plunger armature 3 to operate a number of wire contact springs B through a plunger 6. Each spring B is fixed at one end 23 to a terminal 24, has a coiled portion 22, a contact-engaging portion 26, and its other end slidably located in a respective one of a number of notches 20 formed between a pair of insulating plates 19 fixed to the plunger 6. Each contact B co-operates with the cranked ends 27 of a pair of upper and lower wire contacts C sealed through the end plate 8, and when the coil 1 is not energized a spring 9 biases the plunger 6 so that each contact portion 26 engages the cranked end 27 of the lower contact C of its pair, energization of the coil causing the upper contact C to be engaged. The arrangement ensures that a sliding contact-cleaning action takes place upon contact engagement. The contact surfaces 26, 27 may be electro-plated with silver followed by electro-plating with gold. The plate 8 is sealed in the can D at 19a.
