Abstract

831,988. Making bags. AMERICAN BAG & PAPER CORPORATION. Jan. 14, 1957 [Feb. 6, 1956], No. 1342/57. Class 94(2). Flaps 14, 15 of a bag bottom are caused to be substantially vertically adjacent each other for sealing together, by bending down the bag parts or either side of them about a conveying support. Partially formed bags 10 in which the flaps 14, 15 overlap in an unfolded condition, each extending from and lying in the plane of the bottom forming layer are fed by a conveyer 18 on to a belt 20 shaped so that rollers 22 may press parts 12, 13 downwards on either side of the flaps 14, 15 which then rise to a substantially vertical position for sealing by rollers 25. Rollers 27 similar to the rollers 22 may retain the bag bent to facilitate subsequent bottom forming operations. The bags may have an inner layer or lining of thermoplastic material and the rollers 25 may be heated. Pressure sensitive or other adhesive may be used to seal the flaps 14, 15.
