831,930. Electrolysis of alumina. ALUMINIUM LABORATORIES Ltd. June 9, 1958 [June 12, 1957], No. 18406/58. Class 41. An electrolyte for producing aluminium metal from alumina dissolved therein, consists of a molten mixture of cryolite and from 4-9% NaCl and a similar amount of calcium or magnesium fluoride or a mixture thereof. The cryolite components may vary from NaF/AlF 3 ratio of 1.1 to 1.6 to 1. The melt will dissolve up to 10% Al 2 O 3 .
