Abstract

831,763. Body armour. FOSTER, L. W. Nov. 22, 1957, No. 36501/57. Class 141 An armoured jacket &c. comprises outer and inner fabric plies 19, 20 respectively, and armour plates 24 contained in horizontal rows of pockets between the two plies. The partly overlapping rows of pockets 21-23 are secured to the garment along their upper edges at 45, 49, 51 respectively, the rows being secured alternately to the outer and inner plies. The side edges of certain pockets may also be secured to one or both plies along at least part of their length, but the lower edges of all pockets are free. Adjacent pockets in each horizontal row overlap slightly as shown in Fig. 6. The armour plates 24 are curved sheets of pressed glass fibre. The yoke portion of the garment is padded at 18.
