Abstract
831, 737. Fusible cut-outs. BESWICK, K. E., BESWICK, D. G. E., and MELBOURN, W. F. July 18, 1958 [July 18, 1957], No. 22797/57. Class 38 (1). A thermal cut-out has a spring 9 held in tension in a glass tubular body 6 with metal end caps 7, 8, one end of the spring 10 forming a contact embedded in fusible alloy 11 on end cap 8 while the other end is held, through large turns formed thereon, by the end of body 6. End cap 7 is connected to contact 10 by a current carrying wire 13 which may be omitted, so that spring 9 carries the current, or may be replaced by a coil of soft annealed copper wire arranged along the axis of the spring. The insulation 16 may be omitted, one end of wire 13 being soldered to cap 7 or to the adjacent end of spring 9. According to the Provisional Specification, instead of providing large turns on the end of spring 9, the spring may be tensioned by a tail passing through a hole in end cap 9 to which it is subsequently soldered.
