831,624. Colostomy appliances. SCHACHT, E. Nov. 13, 1957, No. 35446/57. Class 81(2). A colostomy device comprises a disposable flexible container the mouth of which is folded round a soft resilient ring and a retaining member of stiffer material than the ring and which, in use, applies pressure to the ring and holds it against the body. The mouth 25 of the container 21, which is made of polyethylene or rubber hydrochloride film, is passed through the ring 10, which is made of sponge rubber or soft resilient synthetic plastic, and is folded over the outer surfaces of the ring. A tubular stiffening insert 13 extends outwardly of the ring. The ring-shaped retaining member 16 is passed over the container and a belt 18 secured to the retaining member holds the retaining member and the ring tightly against the body. The inner edge of the retaining member and the insert 13 secure the folded-over mouth of the container between them.
