Abstract
831,287. Magnetic separators. BLENDING MACHINE CO. Ltd. May 5, 1958 [May 4, 1957], .o. 14287/57. Class 117 A magnetic separator for treating powders, liquids, pastes or oils comprises a casing 10 resiliently mounted by means of plugs 13 and provided with superimposed elements 101 of magnetizable material. The casing has a vibrating unit fixed to it and is located between the faces of pole pieces 151 of a pair of electromagnets 152. A pivoted shoot 18 is provided beneath the lower end of the casing and, due to a weight 181, assumes the position shown in full lines when the electromagnets 152 are not energized, e.g. when there is a current failure or the current has been inadvertently switched off. In this position, contaminated material flows to a channel 162. A solenoid device 22 is energized when the electromagnets 152 are energized and the shoot 18 is tipped to the position in which the treated material is directed into a channel 161. The current supply may be controlled by a time switch for operation on a time cycle, the elements 101 being cleansed during periods of demagnetization. According to the Provisional Specification, a block of magnetic material is provided at one end of an arm of the shoot, the arm being moved by an operator into the appropriate position and the shoot being magnetically maintained in position by the field of the electromagnets.
