Abstract

830,445. Road &c. surface levelling. CAMMIDGE, G. Oct. 30, 1957 [Sept. 11, 1956], No. 27696/56. Class 107 A road or like screeding machine consists of a screed or screeds supported on a chasis, one end of which is carried by steerable road wheels and the other end of which is carried by road wheels for transportation which may be retracted and replaced by rollers or wheels running on rails, the vertical distance of which from the chassis is adjustable to vary the height of the screeds from the surface to be covered. As shown, the screeds 2 and 3 are supported on the chassis 1 having steerable road wheels 16 at the front operated by lever 25 and linkage 26, and rollers 5, 5<SP>1</SP>. which run on the freshly laid surface and which are vertically adjustable by handle 12 and threaded rod 9, to vary the height of the screeds above the road surface. The mounting bars 6 of the rollers are extended to support the road wheels 13 which may be lowered by operation of the handle 12 to retract the rollers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> and support the machine for transportation. The screeds may be adjusted to form a camber on a road surface, may be angularly adjustable relative to one another and may have side extensions 36 to define the width of the surface laid. The machine may be towed by a vehicle or a winch and cable attached to draw-bar 23, or a tractor having a winch may be supported on the machine the cable from, the winch being anchored to a point some distance from the machine. The surfacing material may be conveyed to the machine through a hopper at the front thereof which extends across the width of the machine, and a modification shows the rollers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> replaced by wheels. running on rails constituted by side-forms for containing the surfacing material.
