Abstract

An oil-free insecticidal composition comprising pyrethrins dissolved in a synergist therefor is prepared by extracting pyrethrins from pyrethrum with a volatile solvent, adding the synergist for pyrethrins to the extract so obtained and subsequently removing the volatile solvent. The synergist may be piperonyl butoxide or analogues having the generic formula <FORM:0829556/VI/1> in which R is a saturated, bivalent, aliphatic, hydrocarbon radical, A is H or an alkyl radical R1 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical, A1 is a saturated bivalent aliphatic hydrocarbon or radical having 2-3 C atoms and n is an integer from 1-3, N-(2-ethylhexyl) - 3,6 - endomethylene - 4 - cyclohexene - 1,2 - dicarboximide, diallyl phthalate or N-2-ethylhexyl phthalimide. The oil-free compositions may be used in aerosol sprays, in aqueous emulsions or, admixed with a solid carrier, as a dust.
