Abstract

828,440. Screw fans. OBA, M. March 6, 1956 [March 11, 1955; Oct. 31, 1955], No. 7035/56. Class 110 (1). In a motor-driven fan adapted to perform an oscillating or rotating movement, the fan motor and an oscillation device driven thereby are mounted at the top of a vertical shaft which is free to rotate in a stand on the upper part of which two wheels are rotatably mounted, the upper wheel being connected to a crank-wheel of the oscillation device by means of an elastic belt, and the lower wheel being connected by a connecting-rod to an eccentric crank-pin on the crank-wheel, the upper wheel being locked to the stand to produce continuous rotation of the vertical shaft, and the lower wheel being locked to the stand to produce oscillating movement of the shaft. The fan motor is supported at the top of a vertical shaft 2 which is mounted in bearings 15 on a stand 1. A sleeve 3 is fixed to the stand 1 by a pin 17 and carries a member 26 which can slide vertically but is prevented from rotating by a pin 31. A ring 22, connected to the member 26 by a screw-thread 27, can be turned until a pin 23 engages a stop 25 to draw the member 26 down to clamp a wheel 6 relative to the sleeve 3. An arm on the wheel 6 is connected by a connecting-rod to a crank-pin on a wheel which is rotated by the fan motor, so that when the wheel 6 is clamped relative to the sleeve 3, the shaft 2 is oscillated about its axis. Turning the ring 22 until the pin 23 engages a stop 24 raises the member 26 so that a projection 29 engages one of several recesses 34 in a wheel 5 to hold the latter stationary. Since the wheel 5 is connected by an elastic belt 8 to the crankwheel, the shaft 2 now rotates continuously. Current is conveyed to the motor through sliprings. In an alternative embodiment, the clamping of the wheels 5 and 6 to the sleeve 3 is done by set-screws.
