Abstract

e -Caprolactam is recovered from poly-caprolactam containing it by evaporation from the polymer in a thin layer evaporator with the aid of an inert gas as carrier, the lactam-containing gas being washed with water or an aqueous caprolactam solution. The caprolactam solution may be that obtained as distillation product when a crude polymerisate of e -caprolactam is heated under reduced pressure. The caprolactam wash solution can be re-circulated to obtain any desired concentration. Specification 711,956, [Group IV (a)], is referred to.
