Abstract

827,650. Shafts; universal joints. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. March 19, 1956 [March 19, 1955], No. 8072/55. Class 80 (2). [Also in Groups XI and XXXVII] A transmission shaft connecting a knob 17 with a thermostat head or switch 13 comprises an upper shaft 24 driven by bevel gears 25 from the spindle 18 of the knob and a lower shaft 26 telescopically connected to the upper shaft 24 and disconnectably coupled to the spindle of the head 13. The telescopic joint comprises pins 30 projecting from the lower end of shaft 24 sliding in slots 29 formed in U-shaped head secured to the lower shaft 26. The slots 29 are closed at the top and a diagonal open-ended slot in one or each limb of the head allows the shafts to be easily connected. The lower end of shaft 26 carries a male member with diametricallyopposed pins 31 which engage slots 16 in the walls of a socket 15 secured to the spindle of thermostat head.
