Abstract

827,047. Insulators. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE G.m.b.H. Dec. 9, 1957, No. 38223/57. Class 36. A tension insulator, e.g. for suspending overhead lines, consists of a pre-stressed strand 1 of insulating fibres, e.g. of glass silk, impregnated with a casting material, e.g. a resin, which hardens without pressure. The strand 1 may be wound into a loop about thimbles 2, 3 and the casting resin 4 applied either to the strand and thimbles only, or to completely fill the loop as shown. Ceramic parts 5 preferably separated by resilient insulation 6 may be disposed within the loop and embedded in the casting material. In an alternative arrangement the loop may be twisted before application of the prestressing force and the casting material.
