Resilient sleeves 5 are provided on a sling comprising one or more ropes 1, and may be adjusted longitudinally to prevent damage to the sling or the load. Bell-mouthed metal liners 8 are provided, and displacement of the sleeves is prevented by clamping elements, e.g. leaf springs, inside the liners bearing on the ropes.
