Abstract
824,799. High frequency coaxial cables. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 22, 1957 [March 23, 1956], No. 9509/57. Class 36. A coaxial cable having constant attenuation over a wide frequency band comprises a dielectric core, an inner conductor consisting of two insulating tapes each carrying a thin layer of metal on one surface, a layer of dielectric and an outer conductor similar to the inner conductor. The coaxial conductors each consist of two tapes wound helically in opposite directions and with their metal carrying surfaces in contact with one another. The wall thicknesses of the conductors should not exceed the depth of penetration of the current at the highest frequency transmitted. The inner core may be a synthetic plastic, preferably polythene, extruded about a fibreglass cord, and the dielectric layer may also be polythene or similar synthetic resin. The insulating tapes are preferably a polymeric reaction product of ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid, the metallic coating being of silver, copper or aluminium.
