[Class 36] In a high-frequency cable, an outer coaxial conductor or a screen for two identical balanced conductors consists of a layer of thin conducting metal applied directly to the outer surface of the cable dielectric and an outer covering layer also of thin conducting metal. The metal layers such as aluminium foil may have an outer non-conducting backing of paper, and two such tapes may be used superimposed with overlapping turns. One edge of the tape may be folded back or the backing may be omitted along one edge to obtain a good contact between successive turns, or the inner or both tapes may be without a backing. One tape may be used with a layer of copper wire braid. The metal layer may consist of copper or silver and the inner layer may be deposited directly upon the cable dielectric. The attenuation of the cable and its stability together with the impedance and velocity of propagation are stated to be improved. The Provisional Specification describes the use of aluminium foil affixed to a tape of strong linen or cotton. Specification 419,525 is referred to.
