Abstract

824,590. Converting reciprocating to rotary motion. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 19, 1957, No. 39446/57. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group XXXI] In an industrial truck the two steering wheels are turned by differing amounts appropriate to each stage of turn up to an angle of 180 degrees or more. Each wheel 13, 14 is in a mounting 15 pivoted to the chassis 11 on tubular pivots 17. A pinion 16 is formed eccentrically on the outside of each pivot and correspondingly eccentric cams 22 adjoin each periphery of each of the pinions. A rack 23 slides in frames 24 which are supported by the mounting 15 and form bearings for the cams 22. The rack is kept in engagement with the pinions 16 by rollers 26 in the frames 24. Fig. 7 shows how the pinions are oriented to give different rates of turn to each pinion at each stage and how the rack 23 is connected to the steering rod 31.
