Abstract

A compound of the formula <FORM:0824168/IV (b)/1> is obtained by reacting the condensate of a saturated acid, acid ester or acid halide and an aliphatic polyamine with a carbamyl compound and converting the product to its corresponding acid addition salt or quaternary derivative. In the formula, R1 and R6 are saturated alkyl radicals of at least 6C atoms; R2, R3, R4 and R5 are alkyl or hydroxyalky containing less than 5C atoms, R3 and R4 may also represent the residue from an acid amide derived from an acid and a polyamine; D1 and D2 are O, S or an imide group; g is 0 to 3; A is O, S, an imino group or a nitrogen atom substituted with an alkyl or alkylol group of less than 5 carbons; f and j are from 1 to 6; e and k are from 0 to 6; m and t are from 1 to 6; R7 and R8 are either H or methyl; B is an alkyl, benzyl or hydroxyethyl group or the cation H of an acid and X is halogen or the anion corresponding to the cation hydrogen. The starting materials specified includeacids-lauric, stearic, palm oil acids; amines-ethylene diamine, triethylene tetramine, hexamethylene diamine, tetraethylene pentamine, N-ethyl-ethylenediamine, N-hydroxy-ethyl ethylene diamine, 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-diaminopropane, beta, beta1-diaminodiethyl ether or thioether; carbamyl compounds-urea, thiourea, guanidine, biurets, guanyl ureas and diguanidines; acids-formic, lactic, oxalic, benzoic, phthalic, acetic, boric, salicyclic, furoic, citric, succinic, tartaric, alkyl naphthalene sulphonic and halogen acids; alkylating reagents-ethyl chloride, benzyl chloride, ethylene chlorhydrin and dimethyl sulphate. Specification 702,089 is referred to.ALSO:A composition for treating textiles and films comprises, in parts by weight, (a) 20 to 50% of a non-ionic surface-active partial ester of a polyhydric alcohol, or anhydride thereof containing 2-6 carbon atoms, with an aliphatic carboxylic acid containing 10 to 20 carbon atoms; (b) 15 to 35% of a non-ionic surface-active polyether prepared by condensing from 150 to 250 mols. of ethylene oxide with one mol. of a water-insoluble hydroxy fatty acid or ester of such or mixture of such acids and esters; (c) 10 to 40% of a cationic surface-active quaternary ammonium compound having the formula <FORM:0824168/IV(c)/1> wherein R and R1 are alkyl radicals having less than 5 carbon atoms and R11 is an alkyl radical having more than 10 carbon atoms and (d) 5 to 25% of a compound having the formula <FORM:0824168/IV(c)/2> wherein R1 and R6 are saturated alkyl radicals of at least 6 C atoms; R2, R3, R4 and R5 are H, alkyl or hydroxyalkyl containing less than 5 carbons and R3 and R4 may also represent the residue from an acid amide derived from an acid and a polyamine; D1 and D2 are oxygen, sulphur or an amido group, g is an integer from 0 to 3; A is oxygen, sulphur, an imino group, or a nitrogen atom substituted with an alkyl or alkylol group of less than 5 carbons; f and j are integers from 1 to 6; e and k are integers from 0 to 6; m and t are integers from 1 to 6; R7 and R8 are either H or methyl; B is an alkyl group or the reaction H of an acid and X is halogen or the corresponding anion when B is hydrogen.
