[Also in Group XIII] In the making of a heat exchanger in which each of a plurality of elements comprises a flow channel bounded by a pair of opposed plates 1a, 1b, and by side walls 2a, 2b at the edges of the plates and formed either integral with or separately from the plates, the element section is assembled from rolled strip material with strips of brazing material 10 inserted between the various parts. After brazing, inlet and outlet openings 7a, 7b are cut in the side walls and superimposed elements constituting the heat exchanger are then formed either by cutting the flow channel assembly into straight lengths suitable for stacking or by spirally winding two flow channel assemblies upon a reel 14 in the manner shown in Figs. 10, 11. In this case the inlet and outlet openings 7a, 7b are cut in a staggered arrangement on opposite sides of the channel (see Fig. 4), by cutters 16.
