Abstract

[Also in Group XIII] In a heat-exchanger in which flat quadrilateral metal plates 1, 2 are joined together in pairs along the whole lengths of two opposite sides 3, 4 by cranking the plate edges towards one another and thereafter welding the plates together along these edges, adjacent plates of the joined pairs are also joined together, e.g. by means of spacing strips 5 (Fig. 1) or by cranking and welding (Fig. 9, not shown) along a part only of the other two opposite sides, these latter joined parts at one side of the assembly being in staggered relationship to the joined parts of the same two plates at the other side, e.g. as indicated in Fig. 2. This Figure shows a contraflow apparatus, the spaces between the joined edges 3, 4 of adjacent pairs of plates being closed by a casing 8 and spacing strips 6 (Fig. 1) being welded between the plates of a pair.
