In a conveyer of the type in which an endless chain or belt c moves work carriers b slidably over guides a by a projection f, slides g are provided for disengaging the work adjacent carriers b from the chain or belt c at each workstation and each work carrier b is provided at its rear end with a ramp m for disengaging following work carriers b from the endless chain or belt b. The slidable work carriers b are in the form of inverted dish shaped members and the ramps m are pivotally attached at n to the rearend thereof to lift the following carrier clear of the projection f. The slides g have ramps formed thereon and are moved towards and away from each other by a pedal i and cord k.
