Abstract
822,303. Control of D.C. motors; interrupters; spark preventing in switches. FRAKO KONDENSATOREN UND APPARATEBAU G.m.b.H. Oct. 1, 1956 [Sept. 29, 1955; March 5, 1956], No. 29897/56. Classes 38 (3) and 38 (5). In a control system for say a battery electric vehicle wherein a periodically operated switch 3, Fig. 3, shunted by a capacitor 4 is connected between a source 1 and a D.C. motor 2, a series inductor 5-7 is employed to reduce the discharge current from the capacitor and also to transfer the discharge energy to the motor. A rectifier 8 may be used to provide a path for the induced energy from the inductor. Other circuit arrangements are also given. The switch 3, whose on-off ratio may be varied is operated by a cylindrical cam 47, Fig. 12, driven by a second electric motor 57 at a speed of say 10-20 R.P. sec. The cam has a varying cross-section along its length and is positioned along shaft 55 by a control lever 53. Spring-loaded switch contacts 32 are mounted on a base 31 to which is pivoted a spring-loaded arm 40 carrying moving contacts 43 which are urged towards contacts 32 by a roller 45 also mounted, on arm 40 and bearing on the cam 47.
