Abstract

822,014. Reciprocating pumps. REINERS, W., and WIGGERMANN, G. Nov. 24, 1955 [Nov. 24, 1954; July 22, 1955], No. 33693/55. Class 102(1). [Also in Group XXIX] In an oil pump having a plurality of cylinder bores 8, Fig. 1, secured to a rotatable shaft 4 and connected to inlet and outlet slots 14 and ducts 13 in a pump housing end cap 2 through passages 15 in a flat annular valve plate 11, the latter is loosely keyed to the shaft 4 so as to be capable of slight axial and radial movement and is urged against the end cap 2 by spring biassed fit rings 16 embedded in the open ends of the cylinder bores 8 with slight diametrical clearance. The fit rings are tapered internally so as to expand towards oppositely tapered passages 15 the narrow ends of which are elliptical and lead into the slots 14, Fig. 2. In a modification each fit ring 27, Fig. 4, is of sleeve form and is held in the cylinder bore 8 by a profile ring 30 secured by springs 29, 31 and has a spherical front end surface spaced from the valve plate 11 by a ring 28 having a flat valve-contacting surface and a spherical sleevecontacting surface. In a further modification a corrugated spring ring is located in a groove of each fit ring or sleeve and abuts the end of its associated cylinder bore. In a still further modification the fit sleeve projects inwardly from and is integral with the valve plate and is provided with a piston-type sealing ring. Fig. 3 shows a revolving cylinder pump having two end caps 20 each provided with two arcuate slotted control ports 14 connected to an associated inlet duct 13 and to an outlet duct (not shown). Valve plates 11 loosely keyed to the shaft 21 are spaced from the inward open ends of the cylinder bores 24 by pairs of fit rings 16 urged towards the valve plate by a spring 17.
