Abstract

820,728. Lighting fittings. BENJAMIN ELECTRIC Ltd., FENN, J. J., and CAMPBELL, S. A. Sept. 12, 1956 [Sept. 12, 1955], No. 26025/55. Class 75(4) [Also in Group XXV] In a lighting fitting comprising a reflector 2 the open mouth of which is closed by a translucent cover 1, the cover is secured to the reflector by a series of clips 5 pivoted to one of the members 1, 2 and movable to engage the other member, each clip 5 having a cam 9, 10 pivoted thereto which is movable to urge the members 1, 2 together when the clip is in its operative position. As shown the clips are each pivoted at one end to a channel-section metal frame 4 in which the cover 1 is secured by tags, the periphery of the cover being encased in a U-section felt gasket 13. Each clip 5 is elongated with a U- shaped portion, at the end opposite the pivot, arranged, when the clip is swung tangentially to the cover 1, to embrace an out-turned bead 6 which terminates a conical flange 7 of the reflector 2. The cam 9 is pivoted between ears 12, bent up from the clip 5, so that the cam surface 10 projects through an opening in the clip 5 to bear on the frame 4 whereby operative movement of the cam presses the cover against the reflector flange 7. The cover frame 4 has a hinge secured thereto, part 15 of which is in the form of a clamp which is attachable to the reflector bead 6. With the fitting suspended in use, the flange 7 of the reflector acts as a watershed. In an alternative construction the clips 5 may comprise a lateral projection to engage in an inwardly facing recess of the reflector mouth.
