Abstract

820,096. Gas turbine plant; motor power plant. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Aug. 2, 1957 [Aug. 11, 1956], No. 24583/57. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXVII] A control 14 operated automatically in response to output speed or torque, alters the timing of a vehicle I.C. engine cam-shaft 13 to give at varying engine speeds approximately constant power output of a turbine 17 driven by the engine exhaust gases. The turbine 17 drives the engine output shaft 24 via gearing 20 ... 22 and, optionally, a clutch 27 which may be disengaged during engine braking. The engine may drive the shaft 24 via an hydraulic torque converter 25, which may be set to give a very large gearing reduction or complete de-clutching when accelerating under heavy load. The engine may have separate inlet and exhaust valve cam-shafts, of which only the latter need be of adjustable timing.
