Abstract
817,348. Combined buffer and drawgear. NATIONAL MALLEABLE & STEEL CASTINGS CO. March 5, 1957 [March 5, 1956], No. 7307/57. Class 103(5) A combined buffer and drawgear has a spring unit and friction gear arranged in a casing 30, provided with forwardly projecting arms 42a, 44a which engage the front stop lugs 16 to limit the travel in draft since the rear wall 47 of the casing 30 acts as the rear follower. In buff the front follower 32 can travel rearwardly until its rear face contacts the forward face 70 of the friction gear housing 50. The rear wall 47 of the casing 30 is offset forwardly at 48 (Fig. 1) and the front face 63 of the front follower 32 is also offset forwardly to provide a greater clearance between the coupler head and the striking casting 25.
