Abstract
816,192. Driving apparatus for endless conveyers. DEMAG A.G. Aug. 23, 1957 [Sept. 14, 1956], No. 26707/57. Class 78 (1). A driving unit for an endless conveyer used in underground mining consists of two or more motors each driving a free member of a planetary gearing the output of which drives the conveyer. As shown, motor 1<SP>1</SP>, of short-circuit rotor type, drives a sun-wheel 2<SP>1</SP>, while another motor 41, also of short-circuit rotor type and of smaller power than the motor 1<SP>1</SP>, drives through a pinion 5<SP>1</SP> an annulus 6<SP>1</SP>. Planet wheels 3<SP>1</SP> on a carrier 7<SP>1</SP> engage the annulus 6<SP>1</SP> and the sunwheel 2<SP>1</SP>. Upon either motor being operated, the carrier 7<SP>1</SP> is driven, this driving an output shaft 10<SP>1</SP> via bevel gearing 81, 9<SP>1</SP>. The arrangement is such that the ratio of the speeds of shaft 101 corresponding to one or other motor being operated is the same as the power ratio of the motors. The motors have automatic brakes 11<SP>1</SP>, 121 respectively, and are reversible so that they may be operated together in opposite or the same direction to give further speed ratios. Each of the brakes 11<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP> is sufficiently powerful to hold the associated motor stationary while the other motor is driving the conveyer at normal speed but is designed to slip during starting of the other motor so as to reduce starting torque.
