Abstract
815,685. Aircraft controls. TELEFLEX PRODUCTS Ltd. March 18, 1958 [May 28, 1957], No. 16900/57. Class 4. [Also in Groups XXIV and XXVI] A cable or other control member 8, Fig. 1, is provided where it passes through a pressure cabin bulkhead 6 with a polytetrafluoroethylene sleeve 9 for substantially fluid-tight movement (see Group XXVI) in a polytetrafluoroethylene fairlead 11 mounted in sealed relation on the bulkhead 6. The sleeve 9 may be a tight fit on the cable and, in addition, retained in position by ferrules 11 which may be crimped, swaged or clamped by screws to the cable. The fairlead 11 is provided with an integral base 12 which is held in sealing relation between two, preferably stainless steel, plates 13, 15 secured to the bulkhead. A clearance hole 16, which may be flared, is provided in the plate 15 which is also so shaped as to form an annular space 17 around the periphery of the base 12 thereby permitting relative movement between the fairlead and the bulkhead. In a modification, the base 12 may be formed separately from the rest of the fairlead and provided with a spherical recess in which the correspondinglyshaped end of the remaining portion of the fairlead is resiliently gripped thereby permitting, in addition to the relative movement above, a universal angular movement of the fairlead ; a circlip may be provided to increase the grip. A bank of several controls may be mounted between suitably dimensioned plates 13, 15. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the fairlead 28 is formed with a spherical bearing portion 29 which is held in a correspondingly-shaped recess 39, 40 provided in a fitting comprising a body 30 and a plug 31. The body is clamped to the bulkhead 34 by a nut 35 and the plug 31 is adjusted so as to allow for the necessary angular movement of the fairlead ; a shim may be fitted between the plug and the body. The Provisional Specification describes also an arrangement in which fairleads of similar construction are mounted in alignment on each side of the bulkhead.
