Abstract

Patterns for shell moulds are made from an epoxide resin and an inorganic filler, e.g. iron or aluminium powder in amount of 100-500 per cent based on the epoxide resin. Quartz powder may also be used. In an example a cast is made in plaster from a wooden pattern, dried, calcined and surface treated with a wax polish and a silicone grease. 27 parts methylene dianiline are melted and added to 100 parts of a liquid epoxide resin derived from diphenylopropane and epichlorhydrin and 200 parts granulated aluminium powder are then added and the whole is poured into the plaster mould containing the pattern and heated to 75 DEG C. The pattern obtained is used in conventional manner for moulding a mixture of sand and phenol-formaldehyde resin as binder. Pyromellitic anhydride or chlorendic anhydride may also be used as curing agents for the resin and a thixotropic filler, e.g. an aerosol, may be added to the mixture.ALSO:Patterns for shell moulds are made from a mixture of an epoxy resins, a hardener for the resin and a filler e.g. iron or aluminium powder or quartz powder. A cast is made in plaster from a wooden pattern, dried, calcined, and surface treated with a wax polish and a silicon grease. The mixture containing the epoxy resin is poured into a mould containing the cast pattern and heated to 75 DEG C. The pattern obtained is used in conventional manner for moulding a mixture of sand and phenol formaldehyde resin as binder.
