Abstract
813,643. Fusible cut-outs. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 6, 1957 [May 4. 1956], No. 13907/56. Class 38 (1). An element for an H.R.C. fuse has a plurality of parallel sections joined at intervals by ties at which the element is adapted to fuse on shortcircuit, the said sections and ties being formed from a single strip. Fig. 1 shows one construction wherein the strip 3 is formed with groups of parallel longitudinal slots 7 separated by portions 9 which form the ties. These portions have small holes 10 therein to give a currentlimiting action on short-circuit and the strip is wound into a helix before securing in the cartridge 1. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, the material from the slots is not completely punched out but is cut on three sides and bent at right angles to the strip to form projections 12 which stiffen the coiled strip. Figs. 5 and 7 show a further construction wherein transverse slots 15 are formed in the strip, the material from the slots being again bent at right angles to the strip, and every fourth or other suitable slot is extended to the edge of the strip, adjacent slots 16 so formed being arranged to extend to opposite edges of the strip. A zig-zag path for the current consisting of parallel paths 18 joined by tie sections 17 is thus formed. Prior to assembly in the cartridge 1 adjacent groups of parallel paths 18 may be bent at 60 degrees to each other to form a triangular helix.
