Abstract

812,876. Copy-milling. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd. July 4, 1957, No. 21214/57. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] A milling machine &c. comprises a driving head 20 having a roughened surface engaging a soft strip 30 on a saddle 25. A template 27 and a workpiece 26 are mounted on the saddle 25, the aluminium strip 30 on the saddle being held against the serrated wheel 20 by rollers 107 attached to spring, pneumatic or hydraulic means. The wheel 20 is rotated to move the saddle along a slide 21 by a motor 15 driving through a flexible shaft 17 and a gear-box 18, in which epicyclic gearing can be controlled manually through a friction clutch or brake. The milling cutter 28 and a concentric follower 34 are moved into engagement with the work and template, by a handle 13 attached to a rod carrying the cutter and its motor 3 at one end and pivoted at its other end to a lever 5. The lever carries a balance weight 7 at one end and is limited in its movement by stops 9, 10. Specification 785,548 is referred to.
