Class 23 [Also in Groups XII, XIII and XXVIII and XL(a)] The settling chamber of a cyclone separator suitable for either liquid or solid particles is provided with particle coagulation means, e.g., a steam jet, an atomized liquid spray, ultrasonic vibrations or ionization means or a combination thereof. A plurality of known cyclones 37, Fig. 6, arranged in parallel and within and inclined to the vertical axis of a chamber 35 discharge substantially clean gas into a chamber 40 and the concentrated particles into a settling chamber 43 having electrically charged plates 56, 57, Fig. 7, an ionized steam jet 44 and an ionized liquid spray 50; ionization being effected by discharge electrodes 46, 52. The settling chambers 38, 42 of chambers 35, 40 are also subjected to ionized steam jets. In a modification a cyclone 131, Fig. 14, discharges concentrated dust into a settling chamber 133 from the top of which partly cleaned gas is drawn by a fan 135 through a duct 136 and discharged into a settling chamber 134 having an ultra-sonic generator 145 and a liquid atomizer 137. The so-cleaned gas is returned to the chamber 133 through a duct 140. In a still further modification dust coagulated by an ultrasonic generator 150, Fig. 15, within the settling chamber 149 is drawn by a fan 155 through a duct 151 having a steam jet 158 and a liquid spray 152 and the further coagulated particles are returned through a non-return valve 159 to the cyclone intake 146.
