Abstract

812,303. Regulating; valve gear. WALBRON, F. B. June 12, 1957 [Oct. 31, 1956], No. 33173/56. Class 7(6) Each valve 15 is operated by two cams A, B, which are independently adjusted by separate centrifugal governors to adjust the valve timing. The cam shafts A, B, are driven from the crankshaft 11 through chain gears and each pair of cams operates through tappets 16, 19 and push rods 17, 20, on a single rocker 18 actuating the valve 15. The centrifugal governors comprise a housing 29, Fig. 4, keyed to a camshaft and carrying a sprocket wheel 30 rotatable relatively thereto and driven from the crankshaft. The centrifugal weights 31 are pivoted on the housing 29 at 32 and on the sprocket wheel 30 at 33 so that outward movement of the weights against the force of the loading springs 34 rotates the cam shaft relative to the wheel 30. At a predetermined speed the first governor adjusts camshaft A to advance the opening of the valve 15 and simultaneously or at a different predetermined speed the second governor adjusts camshaft B to retard the valve closing.
