811,015. Typewriters. OLYMPIA WERKE, A. G. Dec. 13, 1955 [April 21, 1955], No. 35776/55. Class 100(4) In a line-spacing mechanism for a typewriter in which a line-space ratchet 3 may displaced by either a hand lever 5 or by a power drive 19 through a guide slot mechanism 16, 21 and wherein a pawlcarrier 24 is automatically lockable in its terminal position by means of a latch 27 co-operating with an adjustable strip 34, a cam plate 14 provided with the guide slot 16, and a double-armed transmission lever 11, 11a used for hand line-spacing operation, are pivotally mounted on a common stub axle 12 and are operatively connected through a pin 21` mounted on a coupling rod 22 with the pawl carrier 24. The pin 21 projects through the guide slot 16 and is embraced by the lever 11a so that it, and the cam plate 14, can independently operate the rod 22 and the pawl carrier 24. Operation of the hand-lever 5 operates the double-armed lever 11 through link 9 and the connecting rod 22 moves to the right. When the pin 21 reaches the end of the guide slot, which is shaped with an upward bend, a spring biased pivoted latch 27 moves freely over the stop 34. When a power drive is initiated, the cam plate 14 shifts the pin 21 by contact with the left end of the guide slot 16 so that the latch engages behind the stop 34; only when the cam returns clockwise does the upward bend of the slot 16 release the latch 27.
