Abstract

809,085. Pipe connectors. GAS COUNCIL. Sept. 3, 1957 [June 15, 1956], No. 18653/56. Class 99(1). A connector for detachably connecting a flexible pipe to a gas tap 15 comprises a male, tubular member 3 adapted to be pressed into a female seating 14 in the tap by a spring 4 acting between the member and a sleeve 1 longitudinally movable relatively to the member. One end of the sleeve is releasably attachable to the tap, and the other end is attachable to the pipe and has a bore connected in gas-tight manner to the bore of the member. As shown in Fig. 2, the member 3 is provided with a spherical seating 13 and is axially slidably in the bore 2 of the sleeve 1 ; the spring 4 urges the flange 8 of the member against pins 7 of the sleeve when the latter is uncoupled. The member also has an annular groove 10 in which is located a synthetic rubber 0-ring 9. The connector is coupled to the tap by engaging the seating 13 with a conical seating 14 of the tap and moving the pins 7 into bayonet slots 16, rotation of the sleeve relative to the tap completing the coupling operation. In modifications, the gas-tight joint between the sleeve and the member 3 is formed by (a) a packed gland, the packing of which is compressed by a spring disposed between the flange 8 and the gland, and (b) a flexible tube 75, Fig. 4, connected to the member 53 and a spigot 73 in the sleeve and tensioned by a spring 54, the flange 58 of the member being slidable in the bore of the sleeve.
