Abstract

Materials are bonded by placing between them a self-supporting layer of a composition comprising an elastomeric copolymer of butadiene and methyl isopropenyl ketone admixed with a fusible phenolic resin and heating the resulting assembly to harden the resin. The resin may be prepared from phenol, resorcinol or xylenol and formaldehyde, and may be modified with a minor proportion of cashew nut shell oil. The method may be used for bonding brake linings to metal supports. Specification 804,201 is referred to.
