Abstract

<PICT:0808195/IV (c)/1> Several adjacent webs, or a single fabric in open width form fed from a bleaching bath (not shown), may be passed into a pretreatment e.g. steam heating chamber 4 and then to a folder 12 which folds the fabric into an entry box 1 and deposits the folds upon conveyer belts or rollers operating at different individually adjustable peripheral speeds in a tunnel 3, the fabric being extracted through a box 2. Treatment steam may enter through a pipe 24 under a deflector 25, and leave the apparatus through a pipe 29, and additional liquid or gaseous treatment media can if necessary be supplied and withdrawn through a pipe 30. The end conveyers 16-18 are moved at a greater speed than the conveyer 15 in order that the edges 19 of folds may move quicker than their opposite edges so that the folding be arranged vertically or horizontally in the chambers 1, 2 and 3 respectively. By arranging several such apparatuses in series, combined treatments such as de-sizing, washing, bleaching may be carried out. A particular arrangement of rollers in Fig. 2 (not shown), moves the fabric folds a little rearwardly when they enter the extractor box 2 which prevents them from rubbing against the sides of the apparatus when they are moved into their pre-extraction horizontal positions.
