Abstract

807,754. Valves. REALM ENGINEERING WORKS Ltd., and NORTH, S. C. March 5, 1956 [March 4, 1955], No. 6423/55. Class 135. The body 3 of a two-five way plug-cock has a conical bore 7 housing a plug 8 incorporating a boss 10 and a transverse projection 11 at its smaller end; a detachable handle 12, which is fitted on the boss, is recessed to accommodate the projection 11. A collar 13, which engages the plug 8 to rotate therewith, acts to press a rubber or plastic seal 15 into contact with the plug upon applying an axial force to the collar 13; the handle 12 has depending abutments 17 that contact the collar 13 on each side of the projection 11. A nut 19 on a stud 18 upstanding from the boss 10 draws the plug 8 into the bore 7 and urges the seal 15 against the plug. At the other end of the plug 8 a second seal 21 is held in contact therewith by a threaded collar 22 vented to atmosphere or a boss 6 forming a valve inlet or outlet; the seal 21 may be omitted when the boss 6 is used. The seals 15, 21 may be located in recesses in the plug, and the plug may be cylindrical in the region of the second sealing ring. After removing the handle 12 the plug 8 may be rapidly withdrawn from the bore 7. The handle 12 may comprise a removable key, which can only be fitted in one position, cooperating with a hexagon on the plug, the key being of such a size as to fit the collar 22 and the coupling unions used to connect the various conduits to the body. Indicators, not shown, may be provided to indicate the direction of fluid flow with the handle in different positions. According to the Provisional Specification the valve body is made of stainless steel.
