Abstract

807,693. Cables. CRAMNER, T. May 29, 1957 [Feb. 22, 1957], No. 17092/57. Class 36. [Also in Group XL (c)] A cable consists of a solid core 10, Fig. 1, or tubular core 16, Fig. 2 (not shown), of plastic material on which is mounted a metal netting sheath 12, the netting being covered by a plastic coating 14 and the whole being formed into an integral and rigid structure by heat treatment or other means. The plastic may have glass fibre or textile material blended into it to increase its mechanical strength. A method of making cable, wherein the metal netting is formed to a tube and coated by being dipped in molten plastic, is described. The cables may be circular or elliptical in cross-section and the netting is preferably of copper, which may be silver plated.
