Abstract

805,148. Making turbine blades. SEIZER, O. Oct. 8, 1956 [Oct. 6, 1955], No. 30655/56. Class 83 (2). In the manufacture of a turbine or compressor blade by deformation of a blank in dies and/or rolls, a solid blank is initially deformed to provide on one side a plane surface and on the opposite side a convexly curved profile 10, Fig. 12, which departs from the final blade profile to substantially the same extent as the plane surface departs from the final profile of the said one side. The blade is finally pressed to aerofoil profile and preferably also twisted between coining dies 14, 15, Fig. 16. A blade blank with an enlarged root portion is first made by extruding, Fig. 1 (not shown), upsetting profiled or circular bar, Figs. 3-6 (not shown), or rolling. The blank is then hot or cold pressed between dies 8, 9, Fig. 12, to provide the blade portion 2a. Next it is rolled between gap rolls, 1, 12, Fig. 13 (not shown) and finally the blade is coined and twisted between the dies 14, 15, Fig. 16.
