Abstract

717,163. Turbines. OMES, Ltd. May 2, 1952 [May 2, 1951], No. 10333/51. Class 110(3) [Also in Group XXII] A process of forging a turbine rotor consists in pressing a blank, which is initially smaller in diameter than the root diameter of the blades of the finished rotor between dies which squeeze the blank axially to force the metal radially outwards into portions of the die which form the blades to the shape shown in Fig. 4. The forging is finally normalized and one or more end mills then finish the surfaces of the blades and cut away the webs 40. The dies may be modified so that there is no formation of the webs 40.
