Abstract

804,351. Switching systems for electromagnets. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. June 13, 1955 [June 23, 1954], No. 16925/55. Class 38 (4). The working cycle of a lifting magnet 10 is initiated by moving switch 34 to the " lift " position whereby contactor 12 is energized to complete the circuit to the operating-coil of the magnet. The contact or 12 also lifts a contactor 24 by means of a mechanical connection 44. When switch 34 is moved to the " drop " position, the contactor 12 is de-energized to provide reverse energization of the magnet 10 through resistors 36, 40, which reduce the tune constant of the reverse energization circuit. The magnet current is first reduced to zero and then begins to increase in the reverse direction to oppose residual magnetism. Contactor 24 is held lifted by coil 26 which is connected in series with resistor 38 across the terminals of magnet 10. When the magnet voltage is reduced to a selected value, and while the voltage is decreasing at a rapid rate before the residual magnetism has been entirely overcome, the contactor 24 drops to interrupt the power supply to the magnet, and the remaining energy is dissipated in resistor 42.
