Abstract

803,075. Control of D.C. motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Nov. 22, 1956 [Nov. 22, 1955], No. 33463/55. Class 38 (3). A traction system for supplying a D.C. motor from either a high voltage or a low voltage A.C. source comprises an auto-transformer 3, a transformer 2, and a rectifier 1, a change-over switch 9 being arranged to connect either supply to the transformer 3 so that the correct output voltage is fed to the transformer 2. As shown, the switch connects the high-voltage supply to terminal 8 and the low-voltage supply to an intermediate tap 7. In a modification, the tappings 6 on the transformer 3 are situated near the pantograph 4 which is connected directly to the winding 5, and the switch 9 connects to earth either the tap 7 or an end-terminal of the auto-transformer, Fig. 2 (not shown). The change-over switch may be either operated manually, or automatically through a signal when the vehicle passes from one voltage supply to the other.
